hi Blair,
I was amazed to learn of this too. Just getting a q-tip wet and rubbing it over the excess glue doesn't debond the glue underneath the part. I imagine if you saturate the area with the debonder, it would loosen the part. The brand I used, PIC APART, also evaporates pretty quickly, not giving it a chance to attack the glue underneath the part.
You just want to say away from the debonders that attack the plastic. I figured all of them did until I was shown the PIC brand. I know both hobby shops in my area carry the nasty kind.
