I use that jig all the time and it is a great time saver.
What you do is take your widest links and stick them in the jig.
Slide the bar until it just touches the links. Tighten the bar.
Then you can easily fit your links together and glue them at record speed. There is however one very serious design flaw on both my jig and a friend of mines. They used some sort of cheap paint on it and your tracks will become glued to it. The solution is to wire brush all the paint off as soon as you get.
