Well, my method of ensuring a perfectly round plastic barrel with no visable seam is to turn it in my mini-lathe. I purchased one made by Amati 20 years ago in a botched effort to model wooden ships. The lathe sure does a wonderful job on barrels and wheels, anything round really. In a pinch, a Dremel on low or even an electric drill will work, just pop the hidden end of the barrel into the chuck and wet sand with 800 grit paper, polish with 1200 grit. When done it will be seamless and perfectly round. For oblong parts like fume extractors, wet sand without the lathe/drill running holding the sandpaper around the part. Dont worry about being cheap, Ive never baught an aftermarket barrel and probably never will, if its wrong I'll just fix it :)
Oh, I tried on my latest model and it came out great, drill the bore out larger then insert an aluminum tube drilled to the right diameter.....makes the inner tube look just like metal with no seam line or painting involved!
Model on,
