1. Inspect it on the sprue to see if there are any short shots, sink marks, or gross asymmetries. If there are, it's damn near impossible to correct. Also, two part barrel + muzzle barrels like on Tamiya's Shermans or many east European kits are usually lost causes as well.

2. Cut from sprue but not too closely to the part.

3. Remove the locating pins and lightly sand the two mating surfaces. You just want to take off the gloss and the minute flash, along with the pin remnants. If you can't get 90% of the mating surfaces without affecting the shape, you're done. Also, make sure none of the sprue stubs are below the mating plane. (You shouldn't have removed them yet.)

4. Apply liquid cement to both surfaces with a #0 brush and mate. Roll the barrel in your fingers to make sure the full joint is sealed and that it mates up side to side and end to end. Try not to get too many glue finger prints on it. Any globs or smears should be LEFT ALONE. Use spring clothespins to hold the halves together. Check alignment again after clamping, then let it sit for an hour or more.

5. Use sand paper (320 grit or so) to remove the high spots of the globs and sprue stubs until the barrel is pretty much there. Check for overall shape and alignment. If it's bad, you're done as well. Paint Mr.Surfacer along the seams to fill any cracks. Again, let dry. Finish with 400 then 600 grit paper, perhaps reapplying Mr Surfacer as needed.

That's *all* there is to it. . .
