Here is what works for me. This is based on the technique Shep Paine described in his how to books of yesteryear. an example of how it looks can be seen in the Gallery, under Great Britain Modern, See my Centurion MkIII in Korea (by Sean Lynch). The mantlet cover was done using the technique I will describe now.
Use facial tissue paper, such as Kleenex. I get a bucket, add water and white glue to the water. I cut the kleenex to approxiamate size and soak it in the water/glue mixture. At this point you can fold it oaver as many times as you want, the thicker it is the less wrinkles. It folds very much like actual cloth. I then fold/ place it where and how I want. Once in place I bush on white glue multiple times until the tissue paper texture is gone. Once dry I do any final cuting shaping and then paint. |
