Mark,
Good luck with the Pershing! I normally do all my stowage in Millput and sculpt it using pretty much anything that I can lay my hands on! You can also roll millput reasonably thin to drape on top of things. I did a mantlet cover on a Tamiya Pershing about 6 months ago with Millput, which took a lot of work, but got got there in the end. Hardest thing was getting little creases in and not laying the 'fabric' on too heavy. The Tamiya kit doesn't have the plates with the hexagonal bolts which hold the the mantlet cover in place, so if you make these out of plastic strip they can act as a good guide to 'trap' your canvas. For the hex bolts I raided an old tamiya stuart which is rivet heaven, they're not hex but you can just about get away with it. Good luck with yours and look forward to seeing the results!
