My second model since my teenage years was DML's old M4A3E8. I attempted my first wash ever on it but I failed to give the model a protective acrylic or lacquer coating. Of course I started stripping the tank. Boy did I feel stupid. Well since the paint job was ruined anyway I decided to go ahead and strip the tank completely. The Testors enamel thinner I was using melted the turret. I had scratch built sand bag racks and corrected the gun mantlet on this thing and it was completely ruined. After that I used an acrylic wash designed for ceramics for the next several vehicles I built. I thought I had solved my wash problems until I noticed one day that the wash on my JS II had faded horribly and was now lighter than the base coat. It wasn't until I found Turpenoid and artist oils that I started having truly trouble free washes.
