I'm sure I could think up a few gems from when I was a kid, but the one that stands out happened a couple months ago.

I was 99.9% finished with a very complex M4A3 U.S. Marines on Iwo Jima. I'd added all the appilque armor and about 250 of the little penny nails all over the hatches. I did a full, hard edged three tone camo job, wading stacks, p/e, link-to-link tracks with duckbills, the works!

All I had left to do was add the tow cable. I'd mounted a couple of resin brackets to hold it in place. I first heated up the bracket so I could bend the clamp open, then I put the cable in place, and then reheated the bracket to put the clamp over the cable. All looked good.

Then I noticed that the heat from hair dryer had caused the corners of the front wading stack to warp and curl. DISASTER! The whole tank was finished and I had no way to fix a super obvious problem.

Then I realized that any self respecting tanker would have stowed a rolled up tarp right in that location :)

Thank god for stowage!

Jim
