Well I have time so let me sum things up on this model project.

The kit is a great one but the skirts look better when replaced by PE. I used the Lion Roar PE set on this model. I would not recommend using the Lion Roar shurtzen frames. They drove me absolutely nuts. Use the plastic frames and sand/file them down. The bolts provided for the shurtzen in the PE fret are ridiculous. I suggest using a punch to make bolts yourself, cut the bolts off the plastic parts, or in a pinch make bolts from stretched sprue. The latter is what I did for my PE lower skirts. I ended up using the kit supplied turret shurtzen out of frustration but the Lion Roar stuff is definitely usable. The kit supplied shurtzen will require a bit of work to get a clean look but they’re much easier to use than the PE turret skirts.
I got some use out of the little bits and pieces provided in the PE set but a lot of it simply wasn’t worth the effort and or risk involved. The PE add-on armor for the front hull is too thin and the kit armor looks very good anyway.
I painted the tank using Model Masters dunkelgelb and panzer olive green, and Humbrol’s 160 with a bit of 70 added in. I lightened the dunkelgelb quite a bit. I also lightened the Model Masters panzer olive green and Humbrol red-brown about 20%. This proved way too light and I repainted those two colors with unlightened paint.
The Testors dunkelgelb starts out a bit too green but looks much better once a raw umber wash is applied. I first gloss coated the tank then gave it an overall wash with artist oils. I streak the raw umber in the direction water would travel to give the tank a nice “dirty” look.
One of the nice things about German WWII camouflage is that you can get away with dry-brushing all three colors with lightened dunkelgelb.
The muffler got individual treatment. It was hand painted with Testors rust, given the wash treatment, and then dry-brushed with rust lightened with orange.
The last step of the weathering process was to give the tank a good dusting with Tamiya buff thinned about 70%.
The turret #s and balkenruz are Archer dry transfers, while the unit symbols were painted on using Edward masks.
All in all this was a very enjoyable project and I learned a lot from it.
