Hi Iain:
May I suggest that you may enjoy the overall project more if you don't get bogged down with one or two night's work on the barrel? For a few quid, you can better spend your time detailing or spending more time on the finish.
I'm generally against using turned barrels too (I'm cheap) and will try to do well with the plastic ones. But if it looks like it'll be a hard go, I'll get the aluminum one w/o much worry.
Plus, the new ABER ones are amazing! They're kits in and of themselves. I get them because they ADD to the overall model (rather than as a time saver for a plastic barrel).
For me, I'm like Bill Goodrich -- the final fiddly bits right before you can hit it with the base coat. I've got many "shelf queens" too! |
