I use round toothpicks to apply the glue directly to the kit on the area that I want to apply the "fiddly bits". When the tip of the toothpick builds-up with too much dried cement, I simply change to a new one. As for the glue, I usually make a small puddle inside some sort of plastic lid, i.e. milk jug or soda.
