If you look around you should be able to find a "cuticle cutter" that has the cutting edge at an angle that will get into tight places around parts and the runner more easily than a regular nail clipper. Nail files are as good as hobby sanding sticks and usually cheaper. Many have two or three "grits" on one strick. Artificial nail glue usually has a brush applicator and is a slightly slower drying version of miracle glue.
