Hi Christopher,
I crawled all over the one in the Patton Museum storage a few years back and that one was missing the same seat as well. It makes perfect sense that it would be removed to make way for the loader. But there is so little detailed knowledge about the combat use of this vehicle that, unless someone comes forward with some recently unearthed info, we may never have a definitive answer.
