1. Just go slowly, and study reference photos. At least a couple parts would be accurate to have a visual seam (though a weld line should probably go into it). I just ran a little cement into the joint and held the parts together, myself.

2. Other than scratchbuilding... I think a nice one could be knocked out using brass wire and lead foil (or perhaps epoxy putty if you have the skill).
