If I remember correctly, there screen below the louvre can be seen on the Patton Museum vehicle, but I am not 100% sure. I will try and see if I can confirm it tomorrow.
If you choose to open eone or both of the upper hatches of the engine deck, all that will be visible are the fuel filler and a row of cylinder (I am not sure if this is the correct name for these things, my english has its limitations), but if you choose to open the rear hatch, much more will be visible. If you open the front louver, the one that goes across the deck, you will see the airfilter, oil cooler and the front end of the fuel tanks.
There is not yet a real aftermarket engine out there, not that I have heard of at least, but there is a company called MK that makes a kit of the Tatra 111 truck, I think it is a post war truck, but it uses the same engine as the 234. There is an engine inclosed in this quite expencive resin kit. The alternative is scratchbuilding......
