Karaya copper cables are available from The Barrel Store, They are the best I've ever used.

You have to be careful regarding the "braided" appearance of some of that picture hanging wire, since a lot of the tank cables aren't braided.

Also, I've used cable salvaged from an old drafting table after burning off the plastic sheath. But as Thomas suggests, it's a bit springy and needs to be well anhealed.
