Hi Thomas,
I have had luck with model ship rigging thread. I use diluted white glue to lay down the fibers that sometimes stick out of the heavier rigging threads plus the paint helps do that as well. This technique is especially good for the thinner diameter cables such as the track changing cable for a Tiger. It is real easy to bend around corners. I'll try to scan a photo at home of a tow cable on a Jagdpanzer IV Lang that I did with this technique and send it out tomorrow.
