Tricky question. Yes and no.
To sound preachy, WHAT is a military figure? A figure represents the REAL HUMAN WARRIOR just as AFV kits represent the REAL AFV.
As such, sometimes the resin makers really do get their homework correct. Other times, sculptors "just dropped the ball."
When I rate figures, I use the following criteria:
* Did the sculptor THINK when he made the figure? (Having a gun and no ammo...would the sculptor want to go to war looking like this? I wouldn't...suicide!).
* Is the figure proportional? (I can't believe the number of female figures out there that somehow look squashed or too unproportional. And they call them sexy?).
* What "goodies" does the figure come with? (Seriously, if the sculptor took all the time to make this figure once in his life, the sculptor should have at least gave some gear so that the sculptor doesn't have to repeat making this figure at a later date because he "forgot to include" something. A good example is an architect. Architects design buildings to last a lifetime. You don't want the same architect to come back when he's 90 years old to add something he forgot or to correct a mistake in your house).
* Features and "firsts." (There are many figure sculptors out there but not all of them care to do their homework. A "man" looks the same for thousands of years but gear and weapons change constantly as the years go by. We buyers are doing our homework so there's no real excuse why the sculptor shouldn't either).
* Does the figure represent the time period it's created for? (Again, the sculptor has the control for making the figure and the time period he selected. If the figure doesn't represent the time period, one wonders why the sculptor chose that time in the first place).
* Does the pose look natural or exciting? (This can determine if the sculptor really knows how to sculpt).
When a resin figure gets all of the above correct, it really puts plastic figures on the back burner.
The main criteria for any figure is THOUGHT. How much thinking did the sculptor put into this figure? Does the sculptor know his stuff because after all, this is the sculptor's *job* and I pay for his work and thinking process, not for the resin and the box.
If plastic figures get the above correct, then I'll buy plastic. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a lot of new 1/35 and /16 plastic figures or the modern sort released recently.
My two cents.
