HI Christophe
The demise of the big figures NG last year has left figure modellers in the
lurch. There are lots of armor sites, aircraft sites etc., but those of us who
build figures from various eras are in the dark. Thus, my question last week
about Napoleonic figures. Armorama has become more than an armor site. There are
figure, ship and aircraft sections there. Perhaps reviewers of non-AFV related
stuff could be referred to Armorama? Reviews of any type are posted there, and
despite the name, it has become a general site.
On the resin vs plastic front, I find resin figures can be amazing. Detail on
some Wolf, Warriors, and other offerings are unmatched in plastic (I mention the
big resin companies there). But, I've received the most comments on a little
vignette I made using DML figures. Some of their recent offerings are excellent,
and the uniform detail rivals that of resin. I like getting 4 figures for 8
bucks, versus one resin figure for that price. I'm a lot more comfortable hacking
apart plastic than I am doing surgery on resin, and of course, resin dust is
toxic, whereas plastic dust is not (as far as I know).
Let's not forget metal figures either! Very few are made in 1/35 scale (Hornet),
but Andrea, Pegaso and others make fantastic figures in Metal. I'm torn as to
whether metal or resin are better, because I find resin figures look better than
metal before assembly begins, but the faces and details of a metal figure spring
to life when paint is applied!
I just bought two of the newer sets of Tamiya figures. I'd say DML has now
surpassed Tamiya in terms of overall figure quality, but big T still make figures
that are in interesting groupings, and the drivers fit in the vehicles!!
My thoughts for Sunday morning!
