so far i've read all the books on painting figures using arcylics - i'm lost on the blending part.

for example (a figures face) -when blending (feathering) from light area to the dark area, do you apply thinner and thinner coats of the light color and cross over into the dark area with the light color ?? when doing this do you lighten the light color more and more and cross over to dark area or do you just keep thinning the paint and not lighten the light color or do you do both ????

or do you darken the light color as you cross over into the dark areas ???
