I've been doing figs for about 35 years now, and this problem has been a persistent one. Since the mags themselves aren't flexible, the fact is, to make them look right, you've got to make the uniform underneath them "flexible." I use a fine router and grind off the detail underneath where I'm putting them, test-fitting until the mag set slips into a kind of indent close to the body. From there, I usually putty around the mag to make it become an integral part of the torso. I know, I know -- this isn't a "quick fix" by any means, but it seems to give the most realistic and natural result. You can sometimes help this process by grinding out the unseen backside of equipment as well to make them snuggle closer to the torso.
