I have just looked at the DML figs in the box but I can't imagine getting them into the halftrack can be that bad. I would start with fitting the legs, then adjusting the waist so the body sits correctly, then adding the arms. Remember you can't see the front of the figure at all, nor much of the lower legs/feet.

The crew for the PaK 50 are IIRC old figs from the taper-bore Anti tank gun. They are wearing accurate but somewhat rare quilted uniforms and paratrooper helmets. Some of their other guns like the 37mm PaK use the heavy MG troops figures with new arms.
