Peter:
Thank you for the quick reply and the tips.
Your review pointed out the two torsos, so I think I'm using the right one. The 40mm vest is the one with the load-bearing equipment "suspenders" for the buttpack, right?
The kit also includes two of each arm--I assume the right arm with the pouch attached and the left arm with the recess under the armpit (presumably for another pouch) are correct for the M4/M203 option?
I did notice that there is a pretty significant gap at the torso/hip junction--it's almost 3/16" front-to-back and maybe 1/16" each side on my copy. It almost seems like the legs and waist are are a larger scale than the torso. I figured the figure has enough stuff around his waist that I hoped it wouldn't be much of an issue to hide that gap under the gear...
As the hands are attached to the weapon and their angle therefore fixed in relation to where the arms have to go and would determine where they fit to the torso, I started with the weapon.
I got the M4/M203 assembled last night. I did use some fine piano wire to pin the stock and forestock/M203 to each end of the receiver. It all lined up OK, but I did need to replace the buttplate with a piece of sheet styrene--the thin resin plate cracked when I was removing it from the stub. I also needed to replace the round part of the M4 where the stock attaches to the rear of the receiver, there was a pinhole under the surface that opened up when I drilled the hole for the pin to hold on the stock. I punched a disc of styrene of the same approximate diameter and thickness as the kit part with a Waldron punch. This combined with the pins seemed to help the fit there quite a bit. I didn't add the muzzle for the M4 yet, that'll wait til the end.
The way I'm looking at the arms is that the shoulder joints and wrist joints all kinda have to be glued at the same time so the angles all work out OK, right? That kinda means I'm a few hands short of having enough to hold everything in place once the glue is applied. As CA doesn't really have any "stick" to it, that's where I got the idea of maybe using something thick and sticky, like epoxy putty. Maybe pins are the solution in this case?
As for the in-box review of the sniper team: I'd be happy to help you put one together, but based on your inbox of force recon fig, I'd say your knowledge of what's what is waaaaay more comprehensive than mine.
Thanks for the tips,
Curtis |
