paul, I have used citadel primers, and i must say they are excellent. the do not obscure any detail and provide a nice smooth finish. their colour-range is also quite extensive so you can choose from a number of different colours and sizes of spraycans. the largest size costs 10$ approx, and will last a long time! specially if you only intend to use it on 1/35 figures:)
the spray is designed to be used with acrylics, and that's what i've been using so i have no idea on how it reacts to oils. i haven't had any problems with acrylic thinners either and the primer either.
