Greetings Paul,

I myself have used the Citadel primer and can tell you this:

1. Their only true "primers" are the "(Skull) White" and "(Chaos) Black" in the spray cans. All the others are just spray paints for quickly basing a particular army and are not really primers.

2. Like everything from Citadel/Games Workshop, they are exhorbitantly WAY overpriced (@ $16Cdn/can of primer) for what you get.

3. While they are generally good primers for figures and do not obscure detail (IF used properly), they are not "Acrylic" primers themselves. They are lacquer based and though mainly intended for use under acrylic paints, can be used with other paints.

4. You can get the same quality of primer in automotive primers if you
a) warm the can first under warm water;
b) shake the can vigorously;
c) apply LIGHT and EVEN coats.

Again, Citadel/Games Workshop has a habit of taking something that is available from another source at a low price, repackaging it under their own label (and giving you much less, especially if it is ground working material) and then tacking on a 200-300% mark-up and then hoping you are too stupid to go to a regular hobby shop and seeing the real price of things.

As for the Alclad primer, I hear it is very nice though I haven't used it myself. My friends who were early Vallejo converts and do very nice work with it also swear by the Humbrol Grey primer in a spray can. Again, as with all sprays: LIGHT, EVEN COATS are your way to go.

Regards,
Nemanja.
