Good topic.
I notice all the requests here are for non-German WW2 subjects in different poses. That makes sense. All the different poses (or close to it) are covered in various sets of the DML Germans. I have so many boxes of them, and it's easy to pick one or two from one set and combine them with others from another set.
The same can't be said for the Allies. There are two sets of Brit Infantry, one set of SAS and some Paras for WW2. That's it, right? Did I miss any? How about some Vickers gunners? Or British/Commonwealth troops relaxing? The two sets of Brit/Commonwealth infantry are very similar in pose and attitude. I'd love to see some guys running.
And why are the always portrayed wearing full kit? There are lots of great photos of squaddies in shirt sleeves running around through Normandy. We don't see those in plastic. In fact, that's the weakness of the German sets. All the troops are portrayed with the full set of belts and straps with kit, yet most action photos we see show minimal webbing/belts in use, and if any trooper is shown with full gear he's wearing lots of extra stuff!
For the US GI it's similar, with only one or two sets per operating theatre, and few choices there. Thankfully there are some decent sets of US Paras and special weapons teams. There are a few more choices, but not much.
Is it the case that there are few of us buying the sets? Or that there is no risk-taking on Allied sets? I don't mean this to sound like the same old "too much German WW2", but...
Tamiya have much better poses for their GIs in their ONE recent set, and there's some variety of British troops included with various kits. I have been looking for the most recent Universal Carrier release just to get the figures from it (so I'm kind of cheap about it...).
Anyway, over time I suppose we'll see the different poses, but for now we have to wait or build German WW2! I was thinking of trying to modify some of the winter Fallschirmjager to be Brits in winter gear, but all the belts etc. are in place, so it's more than just a minor fix...
Anyway, good topic, and I suppose I should just work on my sculpting skills!
