One other twist was the Recon' Corps practice (probably found elsewhere aswell) of attaching the sleeves and collars of great coats to the leather jerkins.
One more point; the Jeep coats were manufactured in the UK as the Reefer (presumably named for boat rather than the spliff!) and reverse lend-leased to the US.
