Ken,
just take some figures and modifie them with magic sculp. It is easier than one would expect.

cut off the legs and arms, replace by wire in the corect length and sculpt the legs as you need. do the same with the arms. use the cut of hands and boots and you will have your figures. to get a smooth surface use a wet brush.

it is fun.
