Hi folks

Some time ago on ML there was some discussion about differences in the
equipment supplied with figure kits. This discussion occurred during the
remodelling of TL. Some claims were made about one company having crappy
equipment compared to another. In a fit of idiocy, I used a ruler and
measured some of the equipment supplied with various German figure kits
I had at the time. I chose German items because I have very few
non-Tamiya Allied kits with personal weapons (unfortunately, there are
very few of those anyway).

The variation in sizes is quite striking. I've attached a text file that
is formatted so that the columns are all neat and tidy in Excel or some
other spreadsheet program. Increments are at a half mm resolution given
the fact I used a ruler with mm increments.

The most striking thing I see from these data is that there is little
consistency in equipment sizes from one manufacturer to the next. I was
not surprised to see that Verlinden equipment is much bigger (on the
order of a couple of mm) than others for some items. Of course this was
not true for all items.

I'd be interested in getting feedback about 2 things:
1) How do these measurements compare to scaled down versions of the
real thing?
2) Obtaining more observations.

It's also striking how similar some of the items look. Of course I'm
sure this is coincidence, beacuse no company would make copies of
another's gear... ;-)
