Hi Duncan,
the figure from Tamiya's old M5 kit is a good base to work on. It has a realistic pose and good proportions, only needs additional detailing.

Another nice option is this Hobby Fan figure : http://www.hobbyfan.com.tw/product/product_detailshowP.asp?no=20050926019 The disadvantage (omg, I sound like Cookie Sewell !) is that it's sold with that elaborate accessories set for the M18 Hellcat, so if you can't use these parts, it's an expensive figure. On the other hand I think more modelers bought it for these upgrade parts and didn't use the figure, so it might be worth a try to ask here and on ML first, before you go out to order this one.
