Andy & Jamie,
Here's another illustration I found on the net of a 3rd Canadian Div infantryman carrying the respirator in assault order for D-Day. This man is a Bren gun No.2, because he's carrying the additional magazine pouches & the gun's spare parts wallet can be made out on his left hip.
Please note also that I've seen examples of the Mk.II respirator with canisters in a light blue-green, these may either be training ones or post-war issue - the respirator was issued to British troops until the 1970s. I personally wore one for a mask integrity trial at Porton Down in November 1980.
