Can you be a bit more specific which uniforms you mean? There is huge variation. I watched a short video clip of a group of Red Army personnel in Berlin right after the war, and no two of the dozens of troops had the same exact color uniform. There were colors ranging from khaki so light it was nearly white, to blues and dark brown/OD. You see some variation even in more modern, 'richer' armies - by the time you factor in fading and so forth, two uniforms that started out identical can look very different.
The basic summer uniform was a tan/khaki color; the basic winter wool uniform was a darker brownish OD. The quilted uniforms were also OD-ish. They also got a LOT of US OD cloth as a lend-lease item, so US colors work. Tank crew coveralls were supposed to be black but could be blue and even light grey. Sniper/scout cammo suits can in quite a variety of colors and patterns. Any of the DML or Miniart figure box art is a good reference, and re-enactor sites are also handy.
For insignia I suggest Steve Zaloga's book on the Red Army of WW2. |
