I'm finding that Xtracolor's Tyre Black (X505) is growing on me. You don't realise it's not black until you put it next to real black, then you see it's deep, slightly blue, grey, quite a bit darker than Panzer Grey. Of course, being Xtracolor it's enamel and it has a sheen, but it's less than full gloss, and can be taken care of with top-coating.

One thing you find in the 1:1 world is that there's actually no true black (except between the stars). Black dyes - ink, fabric, whatever - are actually very deep shades of other colours. For instance, I have a black suit with two pairs of trousers. When I wear the replacement pair, it makes the slightly faded colour of the jacket stand out as very dark green. Other suits have betrayed their blue colour by running into my shirt in the rain. So it may pay to find out what base colour the dye is for the fabric you want to reproduce, then work up from there. (If the info is out there, that is...)
