The field caps where often bleached by the Soldiers. Why?
Just because the soldiers like to look like veterans with washed out caps and uniforms. I made the same expierience while i served the Bundeswehr. It is cooler to wear an old uniform than to look like a Rookie.

So many of the field caps were almost white. And the other uniforms had a wide variety of shades.

Suggested reference: Afrika Korps in colour.

my best

Frank
