Hi Eddie,

Interesting topic you chose. I'm sure it'll become a very nice diorama.

A couple things about Finnish troops during the Winter War. The Army, like the rest of the service branches, was short supplied in almost every aspect. Model m/36 uniform was very similar to the German m/35 uniform (it was actually quite directly based on it). However, it too was short supply. Many men went to war without any other government issued equipment but a rifle, a cockade on a cap and a belt with an ammo pouch (again very similar to the German model). Most wore one piece or two piece winter camo clothing over what ever they had (civil clothes were very warm, of course, but not very military looking). Fur caps were widely used and there were several models (Army issued plus civil). Those men having served voluntarily with the pre-war Homeguard militia (Suojeluskunta) could have had militia style uniform, which was often made of different color from the Army uniform (it was brownish). In short, the Finnish Army during the Winter War looked very different from the Army that went to the Continuation War in 1941.

Wikipedia may provide some background to the topic or just try Google for Winter War pictures. Some guys here have provided useful links as well. Good luck with the project.

Regards,
Mikko
