Just a small trick for anyone who might be tempted in creating a
textured rust metal effect on helmets and accessories. I primed the
helmet in WarHammer Black. Once dry, I brushed on some Model Master
dull-cote and before the dull-cote dried, I sprinkled some black and
reddish brown pastel powder on a few areas - particularly the top and
back. I then sprayed a very light cote of Tamiya Panzer Grey mixed with
Tamiya Matt black 50/50 onto the helmet. Once dry, I lightly applied
some scotchtape to remove some of the pastels. It revealed a nice effect
chipped effect. Some pastel does not come off and remains hidden under
the top cote. This is desirable and produces a nice rippled effect. This
was applied to a Tamiya 120mm but works equally well on 1/35th scale.
