Hi Michael

What I do is udnercoat the wood item in white or light tan/beige. Then wait for that to dry. I use oil paints - raw umber, burnt sienna, or any other brown shade depending
on the wood look I want. Brush in one direction onlym applying a thin coat, and you get a nice wood-grain finish. It's very easy to do!!

My German snipers' rifles were done that way, with different shades of oils. You can get close ups looking in the gallery.
