All the "jack boots" did come wiht hobnailed soles. The soles of these boots were made of leather, and the hodnails lengthen their life by reducing wear. They also had what are know as heel Irons, which were basically a 3-4mm horseshoe on the heel. There were may patterns of hobnails, and they were prone to falling off if in a state of disrepair. I've seen many different patterns and cannot remember the original # of nails the boots came with. I do know the British "ammo boot" came with 25 in a square pattern. Hope that helps.
