I own a few pairs of the jackboots and the number of rivets varies greatly. The number of hobnails varied between 35 and 45, but as the boots were used, the hobnails would fall off. Interesting side note: because the boots didn't provide ankle or lower leg support, they were given the nickname "Vein Breakers" due to the high number of soldiers developing varicose veins. If you do a late war diorama, the short lace up boots with gamaschen would also have hobnails.
