You should have known better! See the TL gallery were my old M578 is posted.
As I really like ARV vehicles like this I did another one a few months back and had a lot of fun with it. See a picture of it here:

Now for the kit: it's a fairly old Verlinden conversion and it's major pains are the full resin turret and the stiff copper PE fret. It would have been nice if the turret was hollow and the doors could be opened. The PE is fairly thick. Much thicker compared to the average Part or Eduard frets. Considering the PE is largely made from copper you should expect a major clean-up of surface rust. Make sure the PE surface is cleaned before you start to glue or paint. Not that difficult to do with a motor tool like a Dremel.
Accuracy wise it's not a bad one but I haven't been able to compare it to actual measurements. I'm not the kind of a modeller who demands 99,9% accuracy so I'm very happy with both M578 models. I haven't seen any major errors. For some late USAREUR vehicles a few details should be added. Also check if the track type is right for your M578 if you happen to choose one from a foreign country.
Construction wise this isn't a very difficult conversion. The most fiddly piece is the crane arm which takes a bit of hard work as everything is made from PE parts. The manual is very unclear about the construction of the stabilization blade on the rear of the hull so make sure you have plenty of refs.
If you can get your hands on this conversion which is OOP for a long time now I'd say get it!
Kind regards,
Marcel Jussen |
