Hi Blair:
You could use any of the small hatch, VVSS Sherman hulls to make a M32:
M4/M32 - 163 built - Tamiya M4"early"
M4A1/M32B1 - 884 built - DML, Tank Workshop conv., Formations conv.
M4A2/M32B2 - 36 built - Various resin conversions
M4A3/M32B3 - 318 built - Tank Workshop or MP Models hull conversions
M4A4/M32B4 - Prototype only - DML
Because these were all made as conversions from existing vehicles, you could see both direct vision and periscope driver's hoods. However, some of these hulls need to be upgraded to the correct tank configuration first!
If you are adventurous you could try making the early faceted "turret" and early boom arrangement with smaller diameter structural elements and two-point hoisting frame.
As far as large hatch vehicles go, I don't think there are many options. All the M32s were conversions except for 208 of the M32B1s. It is conceivable that about 60 of these used large hatch hulls, but there is nothing support that but the timing, and several things that weigh against it. The 80 T14E1s converted at the end of 1945 might have been large hatch - they were HVSS. There were 15 M32A1B1 converted in mid-45 that were HVSS. Again, it is concievable they used large-hatch hulls, but unlikely. I can't be as certain about M32B2s, but a large hatch hull would surprise me. Therefore, I would not use the Tamiya M4A3 or Italeri M4A3 or M4A1 for the conversion, and would be hesitant to use a DML, Academy, or Italeri M4A2.
