Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

The only problems I have had were the horribly overdone texture on the rolled plate of the upper hull moulding (dealt with by application of large quantities of Squadron putty and then sanding down afterwards) ands the poor fit of the main hull parts, caused by major warping in the upper and lower hulls. This seems to be a feature of all the Dragon JTs and I cured it by the use of brass box section and copious quantities of gel cyanocrylate and accelerator. So far, it has not sprung apart, althought the tension is so great that the roof is showing signs of stress cracks.

The tracks are a nightmare as they are five parts per double link, so I decided to go with Friul's instead. They are even more parts (as each link has a pin as well) and they are a pig to clean up, but at least I don't need to worry about the cement setting before I had them in place as I would with the plastic ones. If you do use the Friul ones, you need to remove the inner guide horns, although the plastic ones in the kit are correct.

The suspension units are a tight fit on the lower hull locations due to mould lines inside the holes, so these need sanding out with a burr. The outer sprocket halves are also very flashed and needed some heavy carving to get them to line up with the inners.

I think the engine deck vent should have the mesh replaced as the Porsche hulls were fairly early and thus can't have the armoured plate over it to hide the moulded mesh provided.

Finally, unless you do the prototype or 314 of 3/653, you nede to add Zimmerit, as all but these tow seem to have had it.
