Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

The set is actually modern. Some things to note:

1. The markings are post-1954 and use a four character DODAC ID code (botched on the 203mm) rather than the earlier five character AIC. Curiously the 155mm charge can has an AIC.
2. The stenciling says "PROJ" rather than "SHELL", another postwar change.
3. Pallets were a late war development for long distance (manufacturing plant to theater) shipment and would probably not move past the port of entry.
4. The O- rather than U-shaped lift plugs were more common during the war.
5. Fiber tubes to hold the charges were more common during the war. BTW, the cans shown on the box are white bag howitzer containers, not the larger cans for gun charges.
6 The projectiles are M107 howitzer ("155H") rather than gun ("155G") rounds. The width and arrangement of the of the driving bands was different. The protective grommet does a good job of hiding them though.

You could use the shells, loose, as they were generally shipped that way. If you wanted you could replace the lift lugs with some model RR lift rings. Don't put any fuzed rounds in your truck though.

Tiger Models now has a 155mm charge tube set available. I believe the largest of the three are for the gun.
