Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Hey Paul:
Here are some tweaks for the Tamiya Stug IIIG kit. With the bolted armor, it should be an early ausf G. However the kit has several features of the later production variants. (reference Achtung Panzer 5)

1) The weld pattern on the upper edges of the engine deck shouldn't be dovetailed. They should be continuous as found in the Pz III L kit.
2) the frontmost fender support mounts should be tubular with triangular support flange.
3) unless you're doing one of the earliest ausf Gs, then you need a armored pistol port to the outside of the driver's compartment
4) the various hex bolts on the upper superstructure should be recessed screws. Also remove the pilzen mounts.

Other areas to add detail:
5) the left rear antenna mount is missing a plate with two bolts
6) the vertical surface of the plates between the cupola periscopes have four small bolts
7) you'll want screens for the air intakes
8) shave off most of the hex bolts on the add-on armor and reattach them but slightly askew. As molded, the bolts are all tightened uniformly -- looks strange that way.
