Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

According to Armada: "Camouflage of German military vehicles", the Tamiya Stug III G is correct. The book shows a Stug III G abandonded in Belgrade summer 1944. The vehicle has the interlocking welds on the engine deck and the late style fender supports, just like the Tamiya kit. The only other thing would be to make the bolts on top of the roof recessed, but I wouldn't bother with that.
The three pilzen on the roof should be eliminated. I wouldn't use the bolted on nose armour, glue a piece of 0.5 thick x 1.5mm wide (020x060") plastic strip on top of the nose armour of the lower hull, make sure the side of the piece of strip that points towards the front is flush with the nose armour. The other side should overlap slightly. This wil simulate the 80mm nose armour, this had a notch/ step cut out of it on which the armour over the transmission rested. There are pics showing that the nose plate was sometimes slightly too large, extending past the horizontal armour over the transmission housing.

Hope this helps.

best regards,

Marc Brandes
