Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Sorry to chim in.

I cannot speak for the "general opinion" in Japan. So, take this as just one opinion.

As far as the "outline shape of the turret front armour" is concerned, I found the following by comparing kits with wartime photos and plans.

DML PzIV E turret looks slightly wrong; it is too wide and the widest point, "cheek", is positioned too low.

Tristar PzIV D turret looks slightly wrong: the "cheek" is positioned slightly too high.

DML PzIV J late is also wrong; its height is short.

Tamiya PzIV H turret is also wrong; it is too wide and the height is short.

Gunze/Dragon PzIV F/G looks better. Itareli PzIV F/G isn't bad too.

(Note that other parts of the turret and placement of various "features" such as vison ports, may have problems in these kits too.)

Anyway, the turrets of pzIV ausf D, E, F/G, and H are all different in a subtle way. So, we need to be careful when comparing these kits. Direct comparison of dimensions of the turrent front armour plate may not make sense.
