Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

They have trumpeted their latest kits quite loudly, proclaiming them to be the ultimate in accuracy, so it's not surprising that a lot of modellers are looking for faults. Interestingly, the re-tooled Tiger I doesn't seem to have attracted the same criticism. Maybe Dragon should spend longer engineering their kits, instead of releasing so many? And perhaps spend less effort on gimmicks and more on getting the essentials right? Or are modellers simply becoming too anal?

The comment about 'boy's toys' was also interesting. One assumes that Tamiya caters primarily to the Japanese market, and puts out products that customers there want. That's what I assumed was driving Tamiya's policy of releasing pre-painted versions of their existing 1:35 scale models, and designing their new 1:48 scale models with a view to selling them as pre-painted models (hence the metal hulls, which are unsatisfactory from a modelling point of view). Yet the 'boy's toys' comment suggests that at least some Japanese modellers are as dissatisfied with this trend as people elsewhere.
