Except the only M48 kit AFV Club does is the M48H, which is also known as the CM-11, and the kit of which combines the turret from Academy's M48A5K (the ROK version) with the hull from Academy's M60A1.
Since the CM-12 was essentially the CM-11 turret on the M48 hull, this would seem to suggest that all that's needed to turn the Academy M48A5K kit into a CM-12 is to leave off the side-skirts and use whatever bits AFV Club added to the M48H box to turn the M48A5K turret into the CM-11 turret. Which probably isn't very much.
Then again, I've bought Hobbyfan sets which were basically a lot of money for a couple of small but finely detailed bits of resin before, so it wouldn't be the first time.
The only thing that I can think of is that the box art on the CM-12 box seems to include a prominent picture of the engine deck - did the CM-12 conversion perhaps include an engine upgrade? I can see chopping the back end off and adding a new engine deck (a bit like the Sgt York, I guess) requiring big chunks of expensive resin.
