Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

we all need to remember how easy it is to misinterpret what one writes. So, it is easier to be clear and not need to explain later after some heat has flared up. ;-)

David, I truly know what you meant but I hope you see how those that bought the kit and are enjoying it may take offense or disagree much stronger than if you stated: After all the wait, I expected more and will not buy this kit, it is not worth it to me.

Comparing the Eduard kit to Dragon's early release, we see the following:

Tracks must be replaced on both
Wheels can be replaced on both (interior bolts, outside bolted flange on Eduard)
Barrel must be replaced for Chwat markings
Tools must be replaced on both
Rear hullplate must be corrected on both (they are inset to the hull instead of proud)

Dragon has one up:
Mantlet cover detail
Roadwheel bolt flange size is correct for Chwat (Eduard's is the same type as Dragon's Mid version)

Eduard has one up:
Mudguards have embossed appearance from below
All hatches are separate
Correct air intakes under hull rear side overhangs
No need to fill bogie mount seams
Roof is separate (important only for Chwat)
Better quality decals
Better quality instructions
Figures included (must get Dragon's Command version for figures)
Better PE details

I have purposely not mentioned the interior.

Had Eduard released the kit for the same price as Dragon's without an interior, I would give the kit an edge over the older one. So far, it seems that it is the price that is turning people off since Dragon and Trumpeter have released much more kit in the box for less but none have done (or redone) a Jagdpanzer 38 to these new standards. As it is, the Dragon kit is about $35USD.

Of course, the best value so far has been the Academy M10 Duckbill Late Version with a complete interior for only $38USD.

Regards,
Saśl
