The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

The following applies to the early release of the Dragon Sherman VC Firefly. Many of these errors have been corrected on the most recent (third) release.
Biggest issues are the lower hull, which should be sawed off even with the back edge of the rearmost access panel on the belly, the late-style upswept return roller mounts which did not become available until after the M4A4 production run ended, and the turret gun opening, which should be lowered about 3 millimeters and the top edge filled. Replacement suspension parts are available from Tasca and others (and Dragon's new M4A1 76mm includes both middle and late-style mounts, so you could harvest the straight return roller bogies from that kit).
The bottom edge of the turret should be round when viewed from below, but the kit part bulges out a bit beneath the turret bustle. Sand this area round if this bothers you. The top lid of the bustle radio box has the early access ports (copied from a museum example). And the gun tube is slightly too long, though it's not that noticeable (moot point if you opt for a replacement gun). The driver's hoods are marginally too wide, and lack the undercut in the casting at its lower edge where it meets the glacis. The lower rear plate lacks many British details, noticeably the British-style smoke generators (included on the latest kit version).
As far as I know, Dragon did not update their M4A4 75mm kits, and those on the shelf would have the original errors. |
